Henry Beissel is a poet, playwright, translator, essayist and editor who lives in Ottawa. Since the 1960s, he has over thirty publications to his credit that have received high critical acclaim in Canada and abroad. His versatility as a writer is evident in his sixteen volumes of poetry; six books of plays, translations from the works of Bauer, Huchel, Ibsen, Mrozek, and Dorst; a book on Canada; and more. His work has been translated into many languages, and Beissel's most successful play, INUK, has been performed in many parts of the world.  For 38 years, Henry Beissel taught English literature and creative writing at universities in Germany, the West Indies, and Canada. From 1966 to 1996 he taught at Concordia University in Montreal.

He has published several collections of poetry, among the most acclaimed of which are CANTOS NORTH (1980) SEASONS OF BLOOD (1984), FUGITIVE HORIZONS (2013) and the auto¬biographical long poem COMING TO TERMS WITH A CHILD (2013). He is the recipient of many awards and prizes.
